White Sugar

Sugar is a favorite of Americans. It's in literally everything, even foods that aren't obviously sweet like canned soups and condiments. It doesn't stop there either, many of the foods that are being marketed as "healthy" just aren't so.

Particularly concerning for parents of overweight teenagers are the long-term effects of consuming too much sugar. Excess sugar raises the risk for serious health conditions later on in life such as hypertension, heart disease, strokes, hypoglycemia, diabetes, and much more.

White Flour

Flour is thought to be relatively safe, again because it's so common in our food supply. White flour is a highly processed form of flour that is stripped of two of the most important parts of the seed: the outside bran layer and the germ, or embryo.

The result is essentially food that is dead, and void of nutrition. To make matters worse, white flour products are chemically bleached so you're feeding your teenagers unnatural substances in foods like white bread. Opting for whole grain breads and flour is essential to helping your teen lose weight.

White Rice

Similar to white flour, white rice is chemically bleached and stripped of many of its nutrients. There is some debate about whether or not white rice is healthy, because it still contains some fiber and vitamins, but it's best to be on the safe side when considering what foods an overweight teen may eat.

In contrast with brown rice, white rice puts extra stress on the body's blood-sugar regulation system and will break down more rapidly into simple sugars. Choosing brown rice or other nutrient rich grains are beneficial to weight loss.

White Salt

Like sugar, most of the salt your teenager will consume won't be added by their choice, but instead hidden in the processed foods eaten daily. Salt is an underestimated health risk for most people, but the experts are aware of how deadly it is.

Table salt is a chemical compound known as sodium chloride and has NO place in anyone's diet. It's strictly a flavor additive that can be substituted with other healthy options, like natural spices or other forms of salt that are nutrient-rich.

Just one ounce of salt will keep an extra 6 pounds of excess water weight in your body to dilute the toxic substance. It may be difficult to remove salt from your teenager's diet completely, but it must be if they intend to lose weight. Salt is a great contributor to weight gain and obesity, and regular consumption will lead to serious health problems later in life.

White Oils

What is white oil? It's any form of processed oil such as vegetable oil, canola oil, corn oil, olive oil, and many others. Many people still believe these oils are healthy and consume them thinking that they're doing their bodies a favor.

To make matters worse, these oils are even more deadly when heated up and turned into what are known as trans fats. Removing white oils from your teenager's diet will help them lose weight and be overall more healthy.
